August 19, 2014 | Koin 6-- Saying he thinks “the discussion might have been a bit too abstract,” Portland City Commissioner Steve Novick took the media on a tour of city streets to show why a street fee is needed.
Novick and Portland Bureau of Transportation Director Leah Treat led the tour that also included members of the public.
A lack of sidewalks near David Douglas School and Mill Park Elementary were shown, as well as no sidewalks or bike lanes on busy, higher speed sections of SW Capitol Highway.
A busy stretch of Hawthorne near SE 36th was on the tour. Those spots needed preventive maintenance, safety upgrades and ADA improvements.
