Citywide Equity Committee
General Committee Meeting – Thursday July 5, 2012 9-11:30am
Location: Portland Building – Fir Creek Room
Attendees – Kathleen Saadat (initial portion of the meeting), Emily Rice, Stacy Dunn, Danielle Brooks, Desiree Williams-Rajee, Denise Kleim, Muna Idow, Dante J. James
Attendees discussed the transition of the Citywide Diversity Committee (CDC) into the Citywide Equity Committee (CEC). Members asked Director Dante J. James about the CDC Strategic Plan and what changes if any had been made to it since members last reviewed it. Most members stated that they had not received a copy of the plan and would like to see it. Dante J. James stated that the plan for the most part was still intact and that he would share the CEC Action Plan outlining Goals 1-5 with CEC members. Dante J. James also mentioned that he would layout the CEC’s work during his OEHR Work Plan presentation to City Council on July 19th. Members expressed a need to have an effective, responsive, and functional CEC structure that would support members in bringing about institutional change. Members also briefly discussed the City of Seattle’s Office of Civil Rights Race and Social Justice Initiative as a model that could be looked to as the CDC becomes the CEC. At the end of meeting, Dante J. James encouraged attendees to meeting the following week to discuss this further. Dante J. James also shared his wish to have the structure and membership of the CEC finalized by the September 6th CEC General meeting.
