A group of students from Shenzhen City, Guangdong Province, China, are visiting Portland this week.
The primary purpose of their trip is a cultural exchange program to build, create, design, and strengthen friendships between China and the United States as well as to promote mutual understandings between the youth of China and the United States.
Yesterday they went on a scavenger hunt around the Metropolitan Learning Center.
They also created art that will be shown at City Hall on Friday at a celebration commemorating the Chinese New Year.
Today they visited City Hall and watched some council proceedings and then had a robust discussion about what makes Portland so special.
As Mayor Hales greeted the delegation, he told them that visiting new countries would make new friends but could also bring happiness.
The students ranged in age from 6 years to 19 years.
