Community Stewardship: Bruce Murray

Bruce provides guidance and leadership to a number of organizations in Portland. For the last five years, he has served as board chair of CASH Oregon, an organization that supports free tax preparation and financial education services to low-income families and individuals at over 140 tax sites in 32 counties across Oregon.

Bruce also serves as a board member for the Friends of Marquam Park. In 2007, he co-created the Backyard Habitat Certification Program to extend invasive plant removal programs in Southwest public parks to adjacent private lands. The Backyard Habitat Certification Program is now a metro-wide program being run by the Audubon Society of Portland.

He’s a founder and partner of Social Venture Partners Portland, which invests partner funds and time in a variety of non-profits in the Portland area. In addition, Bruce was one of the two people who secured the funding for, designed, gained approval from nine agencies, and constructed the elements of the 4T Trail (4T stands for Train, Trail, Tram, and Trolley) in SW Portland. He’s also served as a board member of the Center for Innovative School Facilities and as a member of the Portland Schools Real Estate Trust, the East Burnside Citizens Advisory Committee, and Portland Development Commission.
