Thanksgiving Day parking: meters are free on Thursday, not Friday;
shoppers encouraged to use SmartPark garages
(November 21, 2013) – The Portland Bureau of Transportation advises the public that on Thanksgiving Day parking will be free at all city meters. Regular parking rates and enforcement will apply Friday.
To reduce congestion on Friday and through the weekend, shoppers are encouraged to use SmartPark garages. SmartPark garages will be open during the holiday weekend, except from 11 p.m. Wednesday through 7 p.m. Thanksgiving Day.
In addition, the annual Macy’s Holiday Parade will wind through downtown Portland Friday morning and on-street parking on the route will be unavailable from 6 a.m. to 11 a.m. View the parade route here.
As for enforcement of parking regulations, the City ofPortlandis reminding the public that parking regulations will be enforced on Black Friday, one of the busiest shopping days of the year. Enforcement helps create parking turnover for businesses and shoppers and increases the availability of parking spaces for the general public.
The next free parking days will be Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.
The six City of Portland SmartPark parking garages include nearly 4,000 public parking spaces and serve shoppers, business clients and visitors to Downtown Portland. Contact Central Parking at (503) 790-9302 for questions related to SmartPark garage operating hours or visit www.portlandoregon.gov/smartpark.
