On December 19, 2012, Portland City Council appointed an independent citizen Arts Oversight Committee (AOC) to monitor the investments and impact of the Arts Education & Access Fund. True to the spirit of Ballot Measure 26-146, this group of 10-20 volunteers consists of a wide range of people well versed in schools, arts non-profits, other oversight functions, and fiscal responsibility.
Once appointed by the City Council, AOC members are responsible for:
a) Attending and actively participating in Committee meetings, and Sub-Committee meetings as appropriate.
b) Interacting with Committee members and appropriate City agencies in the fulfillment of the Committee’s charge.
c) Reviewing background materials to understand the matters and issues relevant to its work.
d) Voicing concerns directly, promptly, and constructively.
e) Offering technical expertise when appropriate.
Citizens with an interest in serving on the AOC should be prepared to make a two year commitment.
