Category

Event Types > Community Events > Family Event

Description

Mike Houck, Director of the Urban Greenspaces Institute and Oaks Bottom advocate for over forty years, and Portland Parks and Recreation ecologist Mark Wilson will co-lead this two-mile amble around the Bottoms.

Spring will have sprung in wetland and riparian habitat and springtime birds will be in full song as well. Mike will teach participants bird songs and calls and have his spotting scopes along so you can get close up views of Great Blue Herons, waterfowl, Bald Eagles and other birds of prey as well as the small song birds that abound in the Bottoms.

Mark, who has worked on restoration projects for Oaks Bottom and other city natural areas for years will share his observations regarding ecological changes in the Bottoms, some intentional and some serendipitous, over the many years he has been staff ecologist for Portland Parks.

This trip is suitable for families with children. Bring binoculars if you have them. Wear clothes suited to the day's weather as we will go rain or shine. The walk will leave from the south meadow of Oaks Bottom at 10:45 sharp (look for the big tents!).

RSVP by contacting Marissa Dorais, PP&R Stewardship Coordinator, at (503) 823-7016 oe marissa.dorais@portlandoregon.gov

This guided walk is part of the Oaks Bottom Bluff Trail Celebration in Oaks Bottom.
