Heritage Trees are recognized for their unique size, age, historical or horticultural significance. There are nearly 300 Heritage Trees throughout Portland, and new trees are added each year. Anyone can nominate a Heritage Tree! Heritage Trees are protected by City Code; once designated, no Heritage Tree can be removed without the consent of the Urban Forestry Commission and the Portland City Council.

Several local tree care providers are offering discounts on Heritage Tree work. Don't forget a free permit is required from Urban Forestry 503-823-4489 before any work can be done on a Heritage Tree.
