The Neighborhood Tree Steward program is a springboard for community volunteers to become involved in an array of different volunteer opportunities. The goal of the Neighborhood Tree Steward training is to prepare participants to be leaders and resources for tree advocacy in their neighborhoods.
No previous experience is needed to become Neighborhood Tree Steward (NTS) but you do need a passion for trees, desire to learn, and the commitment to help. We offer a 7-session course during the fall that covers general tree care, tree biology, tree planting, preservation, identification, policy, and much more. Once trained, Tree Stewards work with staff resources from the Neighborhood Tree Steward Coalition to accomplish their project goals. For more information about Neighborhood Tree Steward training, contact Autumn Montegna, Urban Forest Outreach Coordinator, 503-701-7622.
