School Year Camps

Southwest Community Center offers camps for kids when Portland Public Schools are closed to students. These camps are all single day registration, but run similarly to our summer programs. There is an overview of each camp program below.

 

Kid's Day Off Camps this Year:

 How do campers spend the day?

  • Make connections with energetic adult role-models
  • Build friendships with peers during small groups and teambuilding activities
  • Explore creative arts through craft, music and group performances
  • Stay active with sports, games & nature walks (weather permitting)
  • Splash in the pool! Campers 1st grade and up swim each afternoon
  • Preschool to Kindergarten campers participate in circle time, free choice play, craft & sensory activities, nature walks & outdoor patio play.

School Closure Days, Age 3-5 & Grade 1-6
  • Kid's Day Off Camp: Schools out! Need something to do? Here’s just the ticket! Our thrilling & challenging activities will add excitement to your day! Explore arts & crafts, games, sports & more while having a great time making new friends in a safe environment.
Age: 3-Kindergarten AM: 9am-1pm, $26 PM: 1-5pm, $20 Drop-Off & Pick-Up: Kid Central
Grade: 1-6 Full Day: 9am-5pm, $40 Half Day: 9am-1pm, $25 Drop-Off & Pick-Up: SWCC Gym
Program Details
  • Campers should wear closed toed shoes, weather appropriate clothing, and have jacket for outside play. Please bring water bottle, lunch, am & pm snack and backpack to carry personal items.
  • This camp does cooking activities, please call 503-823-2840 at least 5 days before camp begins if your child has food allergies so accomodations can be made.
  • Full day youth age campers swim in the afternoon. Please pack a swimsuit and towel.

Winter & Spring Break Camps, age 3-Kindergarten
  • Little Adventurers: Would your child love to spend the day just like the Big Kids? Make new friends while building social & communication skills. Find adventure & tour your imagination, experiencing arts & crafts, sports, games, cooking & more!
AM: 9am-1pm, $26 PM: 1-5pm, $20 Drop-Off & Pick-Up: Kid Central
Program Details

Winter & Spring Break Camps, Grade 1-2 & 3-6 
  • Winter Madness: Lose those ‘wintertime blues’! Make new friends, gain skills & flex your imagination through sports, crafts, & gym games. Create special presents to use as gifts for the holidays in a productive way to spend days out of school.
  • Spring Break Thrills: Enjoy time off from school with action-packed, non-stop activities such as arts & crafts, sports & games, special events & more! Make new friends, discover new skills & tame that excess energy.
  • Note: All camps will include gym and activity time and groups will be divided by age groups to better meet the needs of 1st-3rd graders and 4th-6th graders.
Full Day: 9am-5pm, $40 Half Day: 9am-1pm, $25 Drop-Off & Pick-Up: SWCC Gym & Multi

  • Spring Break Thrills & Winter Madness are hosted in Multi-purpose and the gym. When the weather is dry they utilize the outdoor plaza outside of Multi-Purpose - please pack a jacket.

Jr Leader - Jr Coach Clinic, Grade 7-10                                       *Prior completion of Jr Leader Training required.

Take your skills to new heights! Pick up techniques for assisting with drills, encouraging players & modeling good sportsmanship under the guidance of expert coaches. Enhance self-esteem, improve interpersonal skills & develop the spirit of volunteerism.

Day/Time: 10am-4pm, offered alongside Kids Day Off or Break Camps. Fee: $30 Location: Meet in Gym
Program Details
  • Jr Leaders should wear closed toed shoes, comfortable & kid appropriate clothing for being active in the gym and bring a jacket in case we go outside.
  • Upon successful clinic completion, Jr. Leaders may be placed as a Jr. Coach volunteer in sports programs based at Portland Parks & Recreation sites.
  • Jr Coaches can be placed with classes, league teams or camps as an assistant to the staff in charge.
