Fitness in the Parks is a 12-week FREE exercise program that brings a variety of fitness opportunities to parks across Portland. Classes for this pilot program will run from June 13 - September 4, 2016.

Program Information

Who can participate?
Everyone! Any person, of any age, can participate in the Free Fitness in the Parks class offerings. It is recommended that you check with your physician before starting any type of fitness program.

  • Participants should bring water, and keep hydrated.  
  • For Yoga and Pilates classes, participants will need to bring their own mat.
  • If you would like accommodation or modification to participate in this program, please contact Jane Doyle at 503-823-4320.

How can I sign up?
Registration is free, and you only need to sign up once to participate in this free program all summer long. Register now for free fitness all summer.

All registrants will get a wristband that will allow you to drop in to any class all summer long. Proof of registration is required, so print your receipt or bring a copy on your phone to your first class. In person registration forms will also be available at each class.

What if the weather is bad?

Can I Bring My Children?
We have family fitness classes, and classes designed just for kids. We also have Playground Programs at sites marked with an asterisk* - Get fit while your kids participate in organized sports, games, and crafts!


Aerobics is a form of physical exercise that combines rhythmic aerobic exercise with stretching and strength routines. The goal is to improve all elements of fitness including flexibility, muscular strength, and cardiovascular fitness.

Boot Camps & Circuit Training
Boot camps and circuit training classes include a variety of activities geared towards increasing endurance, power, strength, stamina, and speed. Exercises will also focus on flexibility and agility, giving you a great total body workout. Lunch Crunch is a lunchtime boot camp with activities that focus on building core strength.

Family Fitness
Family Fitness is designed for caregivers to exercise with their children. This unique fitness experience allows you to bond with your child while still getting a good workout. Lack of childcare is no longer an excuse to miss your workout!

Just for Kids
Fitness in the Parks is proud to offer free exercise classes specifically designed for kids! With childhood obesity rates on the rise, it’s important that our children stay active and understand the importance of a healthy lifestyle. Our youth fitness classes are so fun, they won’t even realize they’re working out!

Walking & Running Groups
Regular physical activity helps everybody feel better and improves overall health. Walking is an excellent form of physical activity. Through consistent walking, you will get and stay healthier, feel better about yourself, enjoy reduced health risks, stronger muscles and increased bone density. Join a running group and start training for that 5k! Walking and running groups are also great ways to meet new friends!

Yoga, Pilates, Tai Chi & Qi Gong
Exercise your mind, body and soul. Yoga helps reduce anxiety, improve flexibility, relieve stress and improve respiratory functions. Pilates is a great way to strengthen your core muscles, as well as aligning the whole body using exercises that challenge and balance you. PiYo is a hybrid, athletic workout, which combines the mind/body practices of yoga and Pilates, as well as the principles of stretch, strength training, conditioning and dynamic movement. POP Pilates is Pilates and Pilates-inspired moves set to pop music. Tai Chi and Qi Gong are both ancient Chinese traditions that relieve stress through cultivating and balancing qi (chi), translated as "life energy". Tai Chi involves a series of movements performed in a slow, focused manner, great for stretching and serenity. Qi Gong is a holistic system of coordinated body posture and movement, breathing, and meditation used for health, spirituality, and martial arts training.  

Zumba and U-Jam
Working out doesn’t feel like work when you’re having fun. That’s why using dance is a great way to burn calories, tone up and increase your endurance. Our Zumba and U-Jam classes always feel like a party so come join us and party yourself into shape!
