Adopt-A-Bench

POSTED OCTOBER 10, 2016

The Portland Parks & Recreation Adopt-A-Bench program is temporarily on hiatus.

We are not accepting new bench adoptions at this time and currently do not have a date for when we will be once again begin accepting new donors. Please continue to check back on this page for updates.

Honor your loved ones. Share your memories.
Donate to your Portland parks.

The Portland Parks & Recreation Adopt-A-Bench program was established in the 1980s as an opportunity for community members to both honor their loved ones, as well as establish a trust fund dedicated to the maintenance of these benches and surrounding landscapes.

Over the years, hundreds of benches have been adopted, some occasional new ones have been installed, and provided places to sit, reflect and remember. Our park system is better for it.

How to Adopt-A-Bench

If you’re interested in adopting a bench to remember a loved one, celebrate a joyous occasion, or let your community know that you help maintain Portland’s parks legacy, click on the map* to see where the available benches, marked as green dots, are located.

After locating the available bench in a park you desire, fill out the Adopt-A-Bench form with your information and the bench ID number from the online map. Green dots on the map indicate a bench with the possibility for adoption, but is not a guarantee. If you have questions, please call 503-823-5592.

*For best results, view map using Firefox and Google Chrome, as other browsers limit map function.

Excluded Parks or Parks at Capacity

There are a few beloved parks in Portland that may be your neighborhood park, but are not accepting any new benches and all current benches are adopted. Efforts will be made to keep this list up-to-date, but please call to confirm adoption availability. Absence on this list does not automatically infer availability.

  • Council Crest Park, Gabriel Park, International Rose Test Garden, Laurelhurst Park, Mt. Tabor Park, Washington Park
