Portland Parks & Recreation (PP&R) developed the Portland World Cup in 2010. The tournament brings to the pitch a celebration of cultural traditions and diversity, an enrichment event that links culturally diverse communities, the Portland community, and the City of Portland. This event is a gathering for Portland’s youth to kick for a common purpose.
Last year, more than 26 city bureaus and local community organizations joined together to host the Portland World Cup at Delta Park. The 2013 tournament included 14 teams representing more than 16 countries with more than 200 kids ranging from age 16-19.

Creative Youth Soccer Leaders
Eight talented culturally diverse youths from Haiti, Burma, Croatia, Mexico, Morocco, Democratic Republic of Congo, and Portland are working with PP&R staff to organize the 2014 Portland World Cup. These eight youth are responsible for recruiting teams, coaches, sponsors, and mentors; organizing Career Week; developing and implementing the media strategy; and securing donations. Their work will ensure a successful event that truly represents the vision of cultural integration.
