Birthday Parties - City Nature Style

Love nature? Celebrate a birthday “City Nature” style!

Our child-oriented, multi-talented naturalists will spend two hours with your group (ages 3-99) and help bring the wonders of nature to life! Environmental Education staff can meet your birthday party invitees at your favorite natural area (or we can suggest one for you that makes sense!)

Party Ideas for 3-6 year olds

Schedule a private Ladybug Walk! We will take the walk for a one hour and spend a half hour on a craft. Each child gets to borrow a Ladybug Backpack during the walk that is filled with exploratory tools (like a magnifing lens, spoon to dig with, and a fun mask to wear!)

Costs  (includes naturalist cost, supplies*, & equipment use)

Groups of up to 10 people: $80
Groups of 11-20 people: $130

 

Party Ideas for 5-10 year olds

Our staff can accommodate birthday party groups from 10-20 children. We will provide two hours of activities that include a forest hike, a nature game, a craft & active exploration based on a theme that you choose! Our naturalists are trained to work with groups preschool age through adult and are CPR/First Aid certified. Environmental Education staff value both structured and unstructured activities, and will seamlessly intertwine your chosen theme into the spontaneity of children’s curiosity. Interested in adding music, animal yoga, face painting, plant or bird ID to your party? Make sure to let us know so we can match our staffs' skills to your event! Parties will be scheduled between the hours of 10am and 4pm.

Groups of 11-20 people: $150
*Note: there is an additional cost of $2 per person for leather crafts

Choose a theme for your party!

Fairies & Wizards
Do you believe in forest magic? Activities include fairy dolls, build fairy houses, create wizard staffs and/or nature potion.

On the Wing
Learn about birds & their habitats. Activities include bird language introduction, bird hike, bird craft, and/or owl pellet dissection (4 week advanced notice required)

Exoskeleton Extravaganza
Learn about insects, spiders, and isopods. Activities include an introduction to arthropods and how to tell them apart, hunting with magnifying lenses and bug boxes for little creatures in the forest, an insect or spider craft, and/or insect and spider racing.

Searching for Secrets
Experience the forest through your senses. Activities include an introduction to the fox-walk (to stay sneaky), leather pouch making, nature collections, learning to camouflage, and/or animal tracking. (Additional cost of $2 per person for leather crafts.)

Creative Creatures
Ignite your imagination using materials from the forest! Activities are highly imaginative, using simple props that we bring along. Some examples include animal puppets, nature kitchen tools, a pretend tea party, ivy costumes, and pretending to be squirrels. We’ll work with you to come up with the right props to bring along to match the theme of your party!

Please note that if you would like to have a picnic area or shelter reserved for food and fun after your nature hike, you will need to make that reservation with the Customer Service Center at 503-823-2525, then option 1.

 

Party Idea for Ages 11 - 99!

These trips will transport you and your group beyond portland for an unforgettable nature experience.  Parties last from 9am - 5pm and transportation is provided. We will provide highly trained educators; our ratio is 6:1. At least one staff member will have Wilderness First Responder certification. We can accommodate up to 18 people.  Parents/guardians are welcome to join in the fun, or take the day off! Pricing depends on group size. Average cost is $40 per person. Snow Play Day

Nothing brings people together like a good snowball fight! We will take your group to a cozy lodge on Mt Hood and lead a variety of winter activities, including: sledding, snowshoeing, ice fort building, snow ball fights and more. When we need a break from the cold, we will head into the lodge for hot chocolate, hot lunch & games.
