The PBEM Strategic Advisory Committee is a group of 9-12 Portland residents of diverse interests, backgrounds, and experiences who share a commitment to a resilient Portland. They meet every other month to advise the bureau director, and their work directly informs bureau priorities, strategies, and budget. Their input ensures that the City's emergency management programs are:
The group meets one evening every other month, and meetings are often conversational in style. They discuss topics such as motivations for household preparedness, emerging public health risks, social media in emergencies, and other topics suggested by the group and related to building a resilient city. They occasionally invite outside speakers or present their own professional or personal experience.
When meeting as the bureau budget advisory committee, they fulfill the requirements of budget advisory committees as set out in City policy documents. When they are not meeting as the budget committee, they take only summary minutes. Members apply on a rolling basis and are appointed to three-year terms.
The bureau strives to include a diversity of experiences and perspectives in the strategic advisory group. All interested residents are encouraged to apply. The bureau can provide translation, transportation vouchers, child care, or other accommodations necessary for members to participate regularly.
