PBEM Strategic Advisory Committee

PBEM Strategic Advisory CommitteeThe PBEM Strategic Advisory Committee is a group of 9-12 Portland residents of diverse interests, backgrounds, and experiences who share a commitment to a resilient Portland. They meet every other month to advise the bureau director, and their work directly informs bureau priorities, strategies, and budget. Their input ensures that the City's emergency management programs are:

  • Focused and effective;
  • Anticipate new risks and opportunities; and
  • Serve the whole community.

The group meets one evening every other month, and meetings are often conversational in style. They discuss topics such as motivations for household preparedness, emerging public health risks, social media in emergencies, and other topics suggested by the group and related to building a resilient city. They occasionally invite outside speakers or present their own professional or personal experience.

When meeting as the bureau budget advisory committee, they fulfill the requirements of budget advisory committees as set out in City policy documents. When they are not meeting as the budget committee, they take only summary minutes. Members apply on a rolling basis and are appointed to three-year terms.
