Heat Advisory in effect for Portland until 9pm Thursday (9/11)

The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory on Wednesday, September 11th for the greater Portland area from 11 a.m. until 9 p.m. Temperatures will reach the lower to mid 90s, approaching record highs in several locations.

Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear light weight and loose fitting clothing when possible, and drink plenty of water. Be sure not to leave children or pets in cars.

To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency - call 9-1-1.

Check the latest forecast by visiting the National Weather Service website. Weather alerts are also available at PublicAlerts.org.
