Mortgage & Foreclosure Fraud

As the number of foreclosures has increased, so has the number of foreclosure-related scams targeting consumers. Homeowners are urged to avoid counselors who charge an up-front fee, and should check the organization's credentials prior to signing any contracts or paying any fees.  It is also important that you be careful not to become a victim of mortgage fraud.

Scam Prevention Websites

The Federal Reserve Board of Governors released this list of tips and resources to help consumers avoid becoming victimized by foreclosure scams, locate a reputable housing counselor, and report suspicious activity.

You can also find information about scam prevention on the Oregon Dept. of Consumer & Business Services, as well as other information based on specific state statutes and resources for individuals facing foreclosure.
