We are looking for women to participate in our study on the effectiveness of taking self-defense classes. If you have NEVER taken one of our WomenStrength classes, and you are willing to complete 2 surveys, then we need you!
Each survey will take approximately 30 minutes and can be completed online or a hard copy can be sent to your home. You will be asked to complete one survey now and another survey in one year. The surveys will ask a variety of questions about topics such as your perceptions of yourself, your thoughts about what it means to be a woman, your beliefs about violence and danger, whether you have had unwanted sexual experiences, and your demographic characteristics such as your age and educational background. After completing the second survey, you will receive a $25 gift certificate.

In December 2013, Portland City Council approved funding for the Portland Police Bureau to pilot a boy's violence prevention and education program in 2014. The mission of the BoyStrength program will be to foster awareness, redefine masculinity, and encourage boys to be leaders in nonviolence. WomenStrength and GirlStrength are happy to set up booths or tables at events so that we can spread the word about the fantastic services the programs have to offer. Our booths provide program information, information and resources on violence against women, facts and myths about violence and sexual assault, as well as information and tips for personal safety.
