Senior Locks Program

You may be eligible for free locks from the Portland Police Bureau.

The Senior Locks Program installs free deadbolt locks and other security hardware on houses of eligible senior homeowners. This program is funded through the Portland Police Bureau and the Bureau of Housing and Community Development.

Trained home security specialists will be sent to eligible homes to perform the following security procedures:
  • Install deadbolt locks on exterior doors.
  • Drill and pin windows on the first floor.
  • Attach metal screening to basement and door windows as needed.
While these security precautions do not guarantee that a house will not be broken into, studies have shown that even minimal security measures can reduce your chances of being victimized.

To qualify you must:
  • Be 55 years or older.
  • Own or buying the house you are living in. Renters are not eligible.
  • Live within the city limits of Portland.
  • Be under the 50% income limit.*
*For persons who are disabled or have been the victim of crime, we can waive the age limit and move up to the 80% income level.
