RENEE HARVEY

On January 15, 1988, a friend of Renee Harvey’s went to Ms. Harvey’s apartment in the 600 block of SE 27th Avenue because Ms. Harvey had not answered her phone.  This friend was concerned because Ms. Harvey was supposed to be home and always answered her phone.  Upon arriving at the apartment, the friend noticed that the apartment door was closed but unlocked. She opened the door, called out for Ms. Harvey and upon receiving no answer, entered the apartment.  She found Ms. Harvey’s body in the apartment and knew immediately that Ms. Harvey was dead.  She then called the police.

Homicide Detectives responded and learned that Ms. Harvey had been the victim of a burglary earlier in the week.  She had been very upset by that crime and was in the process of moving to a new apartment when her body was found.  Friends told Detectives that Ms. Harvey was a 25-year-old single woman who worked as a receptionist/secretary for the Oregon Special Olympics. She had recently moved to Portland from Montana and attended church at the Unitarian Church where she was a member of the choir. She was a singer and had recently appeared in a local theatre company’s production of Oklahoma.  She had no known enemies and did not drink or do drugs. There were no known risk factors in her lifestyle.
