Mr. Jackson, a bartender at the Paradise Club at 3530 N Vancouver, had closed the bar for the night on Monday, November 8, 1982, at approximately 2:45 am. When Mr. Jackson exited the club, he found 30-year-old, Robert Lee Altom, lying on the ground unconscious and bleeding. An autopsy showed that Mr. Altom died from a blow to the head.
Prior to the Paradise Club closing, witnesses state that there was a verbal altercation between Mr. Altom and another male patron while playing pool. Mr. Altom was struck by the fellow patron immediately following the verbal exchange. Mr. Altom’s bag and wallet were missing, so investigators are not ruling out robbery as a possible motive. Mr. Altom was a white, gay man, known for his flirtatious nature.
