At approximately 8:10 am on the morning of June 5, 1976, police were summoned to an alley behind a residence on the 4300 block of N. Montana Avenue. Officers found Abram Benavidez, a 54-year-old Native American male, deceased in the alley.  Investigators determined that Mr. Benavidez had died as the result of a gunshot wound.

Abram Benavidez worked on a Texaco oil rig that was dry docked on Swan Island for the 4 years prior to his death. Mr. Benavidez was last seen at the Jubitz Truck Stop prior to 3 am that morning. Witnesses reported hearing subjects arguing in the alley just off of N. Montana Avenue at approximately 3:30 am.
