December 22, 2009 23:11Last night, around 3:30 a.m., Portland Police Officers responded to a call of a stabbing at a residence in the area of the 7800 Block of Southeast Sherman Street. When officers arrived, they found 50-year-old Lawrence Ornelas in the area of the residence suffering from a stab wound. Ornelas was immediately transported to OHSU Hospital where he was treated for his injuries.
Officers believed the suspect involved in this incident was still inside the residence refusing to come out. Officers requested SERT and the team arrived on scene along with crisis negotiators. At approximately 8:45 a.m., 48-year-old Michael Wisbey came out of the residence and surrendered to SERT team members. Wisbey was not injured during the stand off with police.
Portland Police Assault Detectives were called to the scene to investigate this incident. They were able to determine that a disagreement occurred between Wisbey and his two roommates, one of which was Ornelas. This disagreement eventually ended with Wisbey stabbing Ornelas.
Wisbey is being charged with Assault in the Second Degree and is currently at an area hospital.
