UPDATE: Shooting victim deceased, homicide investigation begins

The shooting is now a homicide. Portland Police Homicide Detectives had indicated that the male adult shot tonight is deceased as a result of his wounds. The investigation is continuing and no additional details will be released at this time.

Media staging for the shooting will be at Southeast 136th and Division in the Dairy Queen parking lot.

Tonight, July 20, 2011, at 10:20 p.m., Portland Police officers from East Precinct responded to the report of shots fired in the area of the Southeast 135th Avenue and Sherman Street. Officers arrived in the area and found a man shot. Medical personnel responded and transported the victim to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Officers presently have a neighborhood perimeter several blocks in each direction from Southeast 135th and Sherman as they search for a possible suspect.

The Police Bureau is in the very early stages of this investigation and no additional details are available at this time and more information will be released when it becomes available.
