The Metropolitan Explosives Disposal Unit (MEDU) has determined that the grenade had been emptied of any explosives and was no longer a live grenade. Officers have cleared the scene and all traffic has been opened.

This afternoon, Tuesday September 13, 2011, at 3:24 p.m., Portland Police officers assigned to Central Precinct responded to the report of a found grenade behind the Goodwill Store at Southwest Barbur Boulevard and 13th Avenue. Officers arrived and found what looked to be an old grenade and immediately cleared the area and called for the Metropolitan Explosives Disposal Unit (MEDU) to respond.

Currently, Southwest 13th Avenue is blocked off but Barbur Boulevard is open to traffic in both directions.

Updates will be provided as they become available.
