UPDATE: Portland Police Investigating Man Who Jumped Off Bridge Onto I-84

The man who jumped off the 12th Avenue overpass has died at an area hospital. The man was a 44-year-old male and his identity is being witheld until family can be notified.

Based on witness statements, it is believed that this man's death is a result of suicide.

ALl traffic lanes are open for traffic.



This afternoon, Monday September 26, 2011, at 4:33 p.m., Portland Police officers assigned to Central Precinct responded to the report of a man who jumped off the 12th Avenue overpass onto I-84. Officers arrived and found the critically injured man lying in the eastbound lanes of I-84. Medical personnel arrived and transported the man to an area hospital in critical condition with life-threatening injuries. Witnesses told police that the man jumped off the west side of the 12th Avenue overpass.

The right two lanes of I-84 eastbound are closed at 12th as officers continue to investigate the incident. Traffic is moving slowly in the left lane only.

There were no other crashes as a result of the jump.
