UPDATE: Portland Police Investigating Man Struck by Train in NW Portland

The man hit by an Amtrak train in Northwest Portland last night has been identified as 73-year-old homeless man Lionel Sotelo Mediano. Mediano remains in critical condition at Legacy Emanuel Hospital.

Based on witness information, it is believed that Mediano was either sleeping or laying next to the train tracks when he was struck.

This evening, Friday October 7, 2011, at 9:05 p.m., Portland Police responded to Northwest 9th and Naito Parkway on the report that a man had been struck by a train. Police and medical personnel responded and located a victim suffering from traumatic injuries. He has been transported to an area hospital.

The train stopped after the man was hit and police and railroad officials are investigating.
