This morning, Tuesday December 13, 2011, Portland Police officers assigned to East Precinct were dispatched to burglary in progress at a medical marijuana growing facility, located in the 3200 block of Southeast 50th Avenue. The owner called 9-1-1 to report that he has a remote security camera that he can watch from home and he reported that a subject was inside ripping out plants.
Officers arrived in the area and observed a subject walking away from the front door carrying plants. The suspect made it around the corner and out of sight. A pick-up truck was located by officers parked at Southeast 51st and Franklin and the bed was filled with fresh marijuana plants.
A police K-9 track failed to locate the suspect but further investigation by the officers revealed that the suspect was associated with an address in the neighborhood.
Officers knocked on the door of a residence in the 5000 block of Southeast Franklin Street and the suspect, 48-year-old Bradley Smith, answered the door and was arrested.
Smith was booked into the Multnomah County Jail for Burglary in the Second Degree.
