UPDATE: Metro Bomb Squad Investigating Suspicious Backpack at Washington High School Site

The Metro Bomb Squad examined the backpack and determined it contained clothing. There was a string leading out of the backpack that possibly was made to look like a fuse and a threatening note left near the backpack which raised the responding officers concerns.

The area is now clear.


This morning, Tuesday March 27, 2012, at 6:41 a.m., Portland Police officers from Central Precinct responded to the old Washington High School site, located at 531 Southeast 14th Avenue, on the report of a suspicious backpack on the West side of the high school.

Based on the responding officers initial observations, they requested the Metropolitan Explosives Disposal Unit (MEDU) to do a more extensive examination of the backpack.

No evacuations are being done at this time and no roads are closed.
