UPDATE: Metro Bomb Squad Investigating Suspicious Device in Southeast Portland

Bomb techs examined the suspicious device in Southeast Portland and determined it to be a hoax device.

Anyone with information about who left the hoax device in the neighborhood is asked to submit information to CrimeTips@PortlandOregon.gov.

This morning, Friday March 30, 2012, at 10:26 a.m., Portland Police officers assigned to East Precinct responded to the report of a suspicious device found by a passerby on Southeast 79th Avenue, South of Rhine Street. Officers arrived and after taking a look at the item called for the Metropolitan Explosives Disposal Unit (MEDU) to respond.

Presently there are no street closures or evacuations.

Additional information will be released as it becomes available.
