###ORIGINAL MESSAGE BELOW###

Detectives from the Portland Police Bureau's Missing Persons Unit have joined East Precinct uniform officers in attempting to locate 22-year-old Rachelle Laws, a cognitively challenged adult, who failed to return home tonight, May 29, 2012.

Rachelle last had contact with her care providers at about 5:50 p.m. this evening, when she called to let them know she had missed her transfer bus at the Gateway Transit Center, and was waiting to catch the next bus home (possibly the #77 eastbound). However, Rachelle never arrived home, which was described as very out of character for her. She has lived at her current care home for 13 years, has never previously gotten lost or gone missing, and is very familiar with the route she takes home from her job in the Jantzen Beach area.

Rachelle is described as a white female, 22 years old, who stands 5 feet tall and weighs 100 pounds. She has shoulder-length, dirty blonde hair, worn in a ponytail (her hair is currently much lighter than pictured in the attached photo), and hazel eyes. She was last seen wearing a black, wool letterman-style jacket with white sleeves, blue jeans and grey tennis shoes. Rachelle tends to speak slowly, may be difficult to understand, and she is quite friendly.

Anyone who has seen Rachelle tonight, or knows where she is now, is asked to immediately call 9-1-1. Anyone with additional information about this case is asked to contact Detective Mike Weinstein, at (503) 823-0446.
