On Wednesday, June 6, 2012, at 7 p.m., Sergeant George Weatheroy will be the keynote speaker at the Helensview High School commencement ceremony. The ceremony will be held at the Holiday Inn - Airport-Columbia Conference Center located at 8439 Northeast Columbia Boulevard. Helensview School, which is an alternative school for youth, ages 12-21, is also honoring Sgt. Weatheroy for his outstanding work over the last five years.

Sgt. Weatheroy has spent several years at Helensview mentoring youth at-risk and providing classes that empower kids to solve their problems as well as take their own paths, and leave violence and illegal activity behind them. Helensview students chose Sgt. Weatheroy to be the speaker at their graduation, to thank him for his positive impact on their lives.

During a time of heightened youth and gang violence, Sgt. Weatheroy has maintained a commitment to supporting youth at the school by providing a firm presence in their lives, while also acting as a sounding board and mentor.

Media are invited.
