This morning, Sunday July 1, 2012, at 2:46 a.m., Portland Police officers assigned to North Precinct and the Traffic Division responded to the report of a two car crash on I-84 westbound on the ramp to I-5 southbound.
Officers arrived and found three people injured. All three were transported to area hospitals, one in critical condition with life-threatening injuries.
Preliminary investigation indicates that one of the vehicles may have been travelling the wrong way on the ramp to I-84 eastbound, causing a head-on collision. Investigators still have work to do to determine the exact cause of the crash and the direction of each vehicle.
Investigators do know that alcohol was involved in both drivers.
36-year-old Jeffrey Andre Walker was driving a 2012 Chrysler 300 and was treated and released at a local hospital. Walker was given a citation for DUII.
17-year-old Beka Nebi Dekebo was driving a 2004 Honda Accord and was treated and released at a local hospital. He will be booked into the Donald E. Long Juvenile Detention Home on charges of Assault in the Second Degree, Reckless Driving and DUII.
20-year-old Jaba Dekebo Mebrat was a passenger in the Honda and remains in a Portland hospital receiving treatment for his life-threatening injuries.
