###ORIGINAL MESSAGE BELOW###
Portland Police Bureau detectives have booked 49-year-old Adam Lee Brown of Southwest Portland into the Multnomah County Jail on multiple felony charges as a result of today's stabbing at Wendy's on Northeast Sandy Boulevard.
Brown was charged with Attempted Murder, Assault in the First Degree (4 counts), Sex Abuse in the First Degree, Kidnap in the First Degree, Arson in the First Degree, Coercion, and Furnishing False Information to a Police Officer.
Additionally, Brown had an outstanding Parole Violation warrant. Brown is also a Registered Sex Offender.
Investigators learned that Brown, a complete stranger to the victim, was standing outside the bathroom inside Wendy's when the 10-year-old male victim walked to the bathroom. Brown forced the boy into the bathroom and locked the door. Brown then attempted to sexually assault the boy, who began to fight back. During the struggle, Brown stabbed the boy multiple times, causing injuries that could be life-threatening without immediate medical attention.
The boy's father tried to open the door but it was locked so the Wendy's manager brought the key to open the door. Brown opened the door and shoved the victim out then locked the door from the inside. When police officers arrived, people inside the restaurant were holding the bathroom door shut. Officers evacuated the restaurant and attempted to contact Brown. Brown claimed to have a gun inside the bathroom, so the Special Emergency Reaction Team (SERT) and Crisis Negotiators were called to the scene.
After more than 2 hours of negotiations, Brown opened the door and surrendered to police. The knife believed to be used in the assault was recovered. No gun was actually located.
The victim was transported to a Portland area hospital where he underwent surgery and is now recovering from his injuries.
Brown was booked into the Multnomah County Jail and will be arraigned on Monday July 2, 2012.
