Today, Wednesday July 4, 2012 at 4:40 p.m. Portland Police officers assigned to North Precinct responded to a shooting at the car wash located at Martin Luther King JR BLVD and Jarrett.

Preliminarily, information from witnesses indicates that a vehicle was traveling westbound on Jarrett when it stopped at the stop sign at MLK JR BLVD for about a minute. Occupants of the vehicle then fired on a group of African American males standing in the car wash area.

It appears there was an exchange of gunfire between the occupants of the vehicle and the men standing in the car wash. The vehicle then traveled northbound on MLK JR BLVD out of sight.

We have received reports that an adult African American male has arrived at an area hospital with a gunshot wound. His condition is unknown. MLK JR BLVD is closed from Ainsworth to the north, Killingsworth to the south.
