This evening, Friday July 13, 2012, at 7:54 p.m., Portland Police Gang Enforcement Team officers attempted to contact a man in the 1900 block of Northeast Morgan Street. The man, later identified as 25-year-old Warren Karl Murphy of Northeast Portland, immediately ran from officers into the neighborhood and out of sight. Officers noted that Murphy was holding his front waistband as he ran from the police.

Officers immediately set up a neighborhood perimeter and asked for a Police K-9 Unit and the Air Support Unit to respond to assist in locating Murphy.

After an extensive neighborhood search, officers located Murphy at a family residence in the 1900 block of Northeast Buffalo Street, where he was taken into custody.

Based on Murphy's behavior of holding his waistband as he ran from officers, police searched the neighborhood extensively for weapons but did not locate any.

The Portland Police is asking anyone who discovers a firearm or any other items not belonging in their yard to call the non-emergency line and file a report.

Murphy was found to have a felony drug warrant and was booked into the Multnomah County Jail.
