Portland Police have identified the man involved in a violent struggle with officers this morning as 34-year-old Constantine Denny Galofteanu. Mr. Galofteanu remains in a Portland hospital for treatment related to possible drug use. Upon his release from the hospital, Mr. Galofteanu will face criminal charges and will be booked into the Multnomah County Jail.

This morning, Tuesday July 17, 2012, at 8:20 a.m., Portland Police officers from East Precinct responded to the report of a Restraining Order Violation at a residence in the 6300 block of Southeast 62nd Avenue.

Officers arrived and were told that the suspect, a 34-year-old man, was in a bedroom. Officers went to contact the man and take him into custody and he immediately began to fight with police. Officers used pepper spray and tased the suspect multiple times but he was unaffected by the less-lethal tools and ran out of the house.

Additional officers arrived in the area and caught up with the suspect at Southeast 62nd Avenue and Duke Street, where he again was tased multiple times but continued to resist arrest and was taken into custody and placed into maximum restraint by five officers.

The suspect has been transported to an area hospital for treatment and will be booked into the Multnomah County Jail upon his release. His name and charges will be released upon his booking into jail.

Two officers suffered exposure to pepper spray and minor cuts during the struggle to get the suspect into custody. Both officers were treated at the scene by medical personnel and released to duty.
