This morning, Thursday July 26, 2012, at 5:25 a.m., Portland Police officers assigned to East Precinct responded to the 76 Gas Station and Food Mart, located at 122nd and East Burnside Street on the report of an armed robbery in progress.

As officers were enroute, additional information was broadcast that employees were holding the suspect down and that the gun was fake.

Officers arrived and took 18-year-old Hanad Ali Haji into custody and retrieved the replica firearm that employees say Haji used during the robbery. The orange tip of the toy gun appeared to have been cut off to make the gun look real.

Employees told police that Haji came in to the store and pointed a gun at one of the clerks and told the other to open the cash register. The employees then grabbed on to Haji and fought with him until they were able to disarm him and get him onto the ground.

Haji was transported from the scene to a Portland hospital for treatment to minor injuries then to the Detective Division.

Haji was booked into the Multnomah County Jail on charges of Robbery in the Second Degree, Coercion and Menacing.

Photos of the replica firearm and Haji's booking photo are attached.
