Fatal crash in the Rose City neighborhood

On Monday October 29, 2012 at 1:29 a.m. Portland Police officers assigned to East Precinct responded to a call of a single car crash into a light pole at NE 74th Ave and NE Halsey St. 911 callers reported there were two occupants and both appeared to be pinned in.

Portland Fire and AMR ambulance arrived and pronounced the driver dead at the scene. The passenger was cut from the vehicle and transported to an area hospital with serious but unknown injuries.

The Traffic Division Major Crash Team was activated and responded to the scene.

Preliminary information indicates the car was likely travelling northbound on NE 74th Ave at a high rate of speed and was not able to negotiate the T intersection. The vehicle continued north bound and collided with a light pole.

The investigation is continuing. Both the deceased person and the passenger are adult males.
