The Oregon State Medical Examiner has determined that the woman, 40-year-old Micaela Quinn, died of natural causes.

This morning, Wednesday October 31, 2012, at 8:31 a.m., Portland Police officers assigned to East Precinct responded to a residence in the 10100 block of Southeast Long Street on the report of a deceased female inside the home. Additionally, officers learned that a 2-year-old boy was alone in the residence.

Officers arrived and contacted the caller, who told police that she hadn't heard from her friend for a few days so she came to check on her. The deceased was reported to have ongoing medical issues.

Officers located the woman who was clearly deceased and called for detectives, Criminalists from the Forensic Evidence Division and the Medical Examiner. Based on the preliminary investigation, the woman's death appears to be natural.

The 2-year-old boy was transported to a Portland hospital as a precaution. He appeared in good health although he was clearly hungry and thirsty.

Detectives and the Medical Examiner will work with the Oregon Department of Human Services to locate family for the child.
