The Bomb Squad has removed the device and will analyze it to determine if it contains any explosive material.

The area is now clear.

This morning, Thursday November 1, 2012, at 9:33 a.m., Portland Police discovered a suspicious device outside Portland City Hall. The device appears to be a water bottle, wrapped in black tape and is sitting on the corner of Southwest 4th Avenue and Madison Street, near some newspaper boxes.

The Metropolitan Explosives Disposal Unit is responding to examine the device.

No evacuations are occurring at this time and pedestrian traffic only is affected at Southwest 4th and Madison.
