On Sunday November 18, 2012, at 12:39 a.m., Portland Police officers assigned to North Precinct responded to the report of a burglary alarm at Frohnmayer Dental, located at 5228 North Lombard Street.

Officers arrived and saw a man, later identified as 30-year-old Thomas Berry, hiding in the shrubbery next to the building.

Officers contacted Berry who immediately became uncooperative and attempted to punch and officer in the face. A brief struggle ensued, during which Berry dropped an open switchblade knife. Berry was quickly taken into custody and as he was being placed into the police car, he became physically combative and kicked an officer in the chest prior to the door being shut.

A check of the property found numerous window screens cut and one window with pry marks, consistent with someone attempting to gain entry.

Berry was booked into the Multnomah County Jail on charges of Attempted Burglary in the Second Degree, Assaulting a Public Safety Officer, Attempted Assault of a Public Safety Officer, Carrying a Concealed Weapon, Criminal Mischief in the Second Degree, Disorderly Conduct in the Second Degree, and Interfering with a Police Officer.
