Portland Police Traffic Division Investigating Incident Where Police Car Rolled Over a Suspect on Monday Night

On Monday November 19, 2012, at 8:41 p.m., Portland Police officers got out to talk to an adult male after observing him jaywalk in the area of Southwest 12th Avenue and Columbia Street.

The suspect, later identified as 31-year-old Jimmy Miles Duffey, ran from officers but eventually was caught at Southwest Park Avenue and Main Street. An officer was in the process of taking Duffey into custody when a cover officer arrived to assist in the arrest. The cover officer got out of the car and the car, still in gear, began to move forward and ran over Duffey who was lying on the ground.

A third officer ran and jumped into the moving car and got it stopped and medical personnel were immediately called to help the injured Duffey.

Duffey was transported to a Portland hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Officers have been able to determine that the suspect has a warrant for his arrest. Duffey was treated and released then booked into the Multnomah County Jail for his warrant as well as chargs of Disorderly Conduct in the Second Degree and Interfering with a Police Officer.

The Portland Police Bureau's Traffic Division conducted an investigation into the incident and will forward the results to the Police Bureau's Collision Review Board.
