Bomb Technicians have removed the item taped to a flag pole at Washington High School and determined that it was a hoax device.
The area is now safe and all streets in the neighborhood will be reopening.

This morning, Monday December 10, 2012, at 4:32 a.m., Portland Police officers assigned to Central Precinct responded to the report of a suspicious device taped to the flag pole at Washington High School, located at 531 Southeast 14th Avenue.
Officers arrived and after a cursory examination of the item, called for the Metropolitan Explosives Disposal Unit to respond to the scene.
Presently, Southeast Stark Street is closed in both directions from 12th to 14th Avenues. Additionally, some area side street traffic is affected.
Commuters should seek alternate routes on either Burnside or Morrison Streets.
No evacuations are necessary and Washington High School, which closed in 1981, is not affected.
