UPDATE: Portland Police Investigating a Fatal Traffic Crash Near Southeast Portland's Ladd's Addition

The motorcyclist killed on Christmas Eve has been positively identified as 44-year-old Saxon Smith of Southwest Portland. The driver involved in the crash was identified as 18-year-old Sami Bashir of Tigard, Oregon.

No citations or arrests have been made in this case and the investigation is continuing.

This afternoon, Monday December 24, 2012, at 4:17 p.m., Portland Police officers assigned to Central Precinct responded to the report of a traffic crash at Southeast 11th Avenue and Sherman Street involving a vehicle and a motorcycle.

Officers and medical personnel arrived and determined that the motorcycle rider was deceased. The driver of the vehicle has remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators.

Traffic is completely closed on southbound 11th Avenue from Sherman to Grant Streets, and Sherman Street is closed from 11th to 13th Avenues.

The Portland Police Bureau Traffic Division Major Crash Team is responding to investigate the crash.
