January 02, 2013 22:00The suspect in this afternoon's carjacking in Northeast Portland has been identified as 18-year-old Devon Mack.
Mack was arrested on charges of Robbery in the Third Degree, Unlawful Use of a Motor Vehicle, Attempt to Elude in a Vehicle, Unlawful Entry into a Motor Vehicle, Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants (DUII), Failure to Perform the Duties of a Driver, and Reckless Driving.
Officers learned that Mack walked up to the victim inside her vehicle in the parking lot of Lacrosse Footwear, pulled her out, then drove away in her SUV westbound on Airport Way.
Calls later linked to the carjacking came in to 9-1-1 about a car off the road at Northeast 148th Avenue and Marine Drive and a drunk driver near Northeast 33rd Avenue and Marine Drive.
Officers from the Port of Portland Police spotted the vehicle on Marine Drive and followed it to Northeast 122nd Avenue and Airport Way where a Port of Portland Police officer attempted to stop the vehicle by using a Pursuit Intervention Technique (PIT) but the vehicle turned westbound on Airport Way in the eastbound lanes.
A Portland Police officer attempted a second PIT and was successful in getting the car stopped. Mack was arrested without further incident and the vehicle was returned to the victim who was able to drive it away from the scene.
Mack was booked into the Multnomah County Jail and will be arraigned on Thursday in Multnomah County Court.
