The Portland Police Bureau Missing Persons Unit is asking for the public's help in locating 54-year-old Norman Garoutte, who went missing overnight from a North Portland medical facility, where he was being treated for a serious medical condition.

Family members called 9-1-1 after Garoutte showed up unexpectedly at his Northeast Portland residence this morning, January 14, 2013, in the 2100 block of Northeast 80th Avenue.

As family members were driving him back to the hospital, at about noon today, he ran from the vehicle, in the area of Northeast 40th Avenue and Fremont Street, and was unable to be located by family and police.

Garoutte's behavior is being attributed to an injury he recently suffered, and he is not believed to pose any threat to the public.

Garoutte is described as a white male, 54 years old, 6'1", weighing 210 pounds. He has long, wavy, dark-colored hair, with grey in it, which he had been wearing in a pony tail. He has blue eyes and numerous tattoos.

Garoutte was last seen wearing a red and black Portland Trailblazers jacket over a blue and black plaid shirt, over a black T-shirt, blue sweatpants and open-toed sandals. He may still be wearing a hospital bracelet.

Anyone who knows of Garoutte's whereabouts is asked not to approach him, but to immediately call 9-1-1.

Anyone with additional, non-emergency information about this case is asked to contact Detective Mike Weinstein, Missing Persons Unit, at (503) 823-0446.
