Portland Police Arrest Robbery Suspect Who Assaulted Victim with a Stick

On Saturday January 26, 2013, at 12:21 p.m., Portland Police officers responded to the Maria Tienda Mexicana, located at 11146 Northeast Halsey Street, on the report of an assault and robbery. As officers were enroute they learned that a witness chased the suspect out of the store and into the neighborhood.

Officers arrived in the area and set up a neighborhood perimeter and with the assistance of a Police K-9 Unit located the suspect nearby and took him into custody without incident.

Officers spoke to the victim who told police that the suspect used a wooden 2 x 2 stick to strike the victim and take money from the business. The suspect then ran out of the business while being chased by another employee. The victim did not require any medical attention.

The suspect, 19-year-old Toby Wylie, was charged with Robbery in the First Degree, Robbery in the Second Degree and Assault in the Second Degree and booked into the Multnomah County Jail. He will be arraigned on Monday.
