###ORIGINAL MESSAGE BELOW###
This afternoon, Saturday February 9, 2013, at 4:44 p.m., Portland Police responded to Paulson's Pharmacy at 4246 Northeast Sandy Boulevard on the report of a robbery. The caller told 9-1-1 dispatchers that her friend sent her a text from the location saying they were being robbed.
As officers arrived in the area and were establishing containment around the pharmacy, the suspect exited the business and began walking southbound on 43rd Avenue. Officers gave the suspect commands to stop but he took off running southbound away from police.
Officers contacting the pharmacy learned that the suspect displayed a handgun as he robbed the business of Oxycontin and money as well as several customers of their wallets.
The suspect continued running southbound into the parking lot of the Grocery Outlet at 4420 Northeast Hancock Street, where an officer attempted to cut him off with his patrol car. The suspect ran into the patrol car and was knocked down but got up and continued running until a customer from the Grocery Outlet tackled him and held him for officers. When the suspect was knocked down after hitting the patrol car, a handgun fell from his pocket that officers later determined to be an Airsoft replica firearm.
The suspect continued to struggle with officers and was Tased before being taken into custody. After medical personnel arrived to remove the Taser probes, the suspect tried to run away again, in handcuffs, before officers put him into a patrol car.
Robbery detectives and Criminalists from the Forensic Evidence Division are at the pharmacy and in the neighborhood to process the crime scene.
The stolen items were recovered and the suspect will be booked into jail after further investigation by detectives.
The suspect's name and charges will be released after he is booked into jail..
