UPDATE #3 - FATALITY: Portland Police Investigating a Hit and Run to a Pedestrian on Southeast Holgate Boulevard

Traffic investigators are releasing two photos of what they believe to be a similar model van and grill from the suspect vehicle in this morning's fatal hit and run of 56-year-old Tommy Gann.

Investigators have learned that the van will be a 1992 to 1996 Ford Econoline cargo van, possibly with a roof rack. The van will have front-end damage, including damage to the gray plastic grill.

A limited suspect description of the driver has also been obtained by investigators.

The suspect is described as a white male with shorter dark hair, possibly with a scraggly beard.



The victim in this morning's fatal hit and run on Southeast Holgate Boulevard has been identified as 56-year-old Tommy Zane Gann. Mr. Gann lived in the area where he was struck and killed.

Investigators have learned that Mr. Gann was crossing Southeast Holgate Boulevard diagonally from south to north when he was struck by the van, which did not stop and continued traveling westbound on Holgate.

Witnesses described the van to police as a white, full-size cargo van, no windows on the sides, with roof racks on top. Based on information gathered at the crime scene, the van should have significant damage to the hood and grill.

This is the sixth traffic fatality in Portland in 2013 and the third involving a pedestrian.

Police are seeking the public's help in located the suspect vehicle, described as a white box van with roof racks. The van should have significant front end damage including glass breakage.

This morning, Thursday February 14, 2013, at 5:38 a.m., Portland Police officers assigned to Central Precinct responded to the report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle in the 1400 block of Southeast Holgate Boulevard.

As officers were enroute, additional information was broadcast that the suspect vehicle fled the scene and was last seen traveling westbound on Holgate.

Officers arrived and located the male victim who was suffering from traumatic injuries. The victim has been transported to a Portland hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The suspect vehicle is described as a white box van with roof racks. The van should have significant front end damage including glass breakage.

The Traffic Division's Major Crash Team is responding to conduct an investigation.

Southeast Holgate Boulevard is closed to all traffic from Southeast Milwaukie to 17th Avenues.
